Who should list on this site?

Privately owned companies wishing to raise finance may notify potential investors of this intention via this site. Investors and other related service firms such as management consultants and VC brokers can advertise their services on this site.

Companies listed are primarily those for which equity capital will be raised and used to fund a project which will result in significant growth of the company. This site is, therefore, not as appropriate for Companies seeking only to change their capital structure, for example, raising equity to retire debt (unless there are compelling reasons to do so from a Return on Investment point of view).

As an investor, why should I list in the "Investors Seeking Investment Opportunities" section?

The entrepreneurs who do not wish to disclose their business ideas to the public can contact you directly. Also, many of the visitors to our web site, who are practitioners in venture capital-related area, may know about  investment opportunities that are not listed in our site but match your investment criteria. In addition, you will receive our regular email newsletters covering digests of recent venture capital related new and updates on investment opportunities that are registered with us. The information about these investment opportunities include information that is prohibited by law to be disclosed to non-subscribers.

Investors looking for investment opportunities can also list on this site. Please refer to the next question for details.

What are included in the listing of investment opportunities?

The investment opportunities on this site are private companies seeking equity capital for expansionary purposes. The listings are currently sorted by geography and contain a relatively brief description of the opportunity.

The listings contain the following information:

Type of Company: A brief description of the company's core business
Industry: Taken from a high level SIC grouping
Head Office Location: City and Country
Current Annual Sales: Indicated within a given range (if applicable)
Estimated 3 year Sales: Estimate of company sales three years from investment date - provided as a broad indicator of anticipated growth/valuation
Total Investment Required: Total Investment amount being sought (in equivalent $US)
Minimum Investment Unit: Indicates the minimum practical investment bundle for any one individual investor.  However, the investment will not usually be made until the total investment funds have been committed.
Listing Submitted By: Typically either by the principal company itself or by a third party (e.g., Venture Capital firm) co-ordinating the investment.   This may also be an indication of the level of due diligence conducted on the opportunity prior to listing.
Description of Opportunity: Brief description of the potential attractiveness of the opportunity

How should I write the description or executive summary of my listing with VCMP?

It should be specific and addresses why it is worthwhile for investors to invest and how the investors can be sure of making a good enough return on their investment. The executive summary is just like a resume when you are looking for a job. A well organized and concise summary will put you in the best position in soliciting leads to venture capital sources. Whenever possible, try to avoid using general descriptions like " this is the investment not to be missed"; and "investors will be sure to get 100% return". What investors interested to know are why this project is "not to be missed" and how be make sure of "100% return".

How is the confidentiality of the submitted information protected?

Confidentiality of the identity of listed companies is maintained on this site - unless a company chooses an up-front payment option and elects to publish their name.

The Venture Capital Market Place will not publish or reveal to any third party, other than potential investors, the information it deems to be confidential (as identified in the Listing Form) or any information the listing company specifically identifies as being confidential, without the written authorization of the company. Investors requesting further information may be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Once a potential investor expresses an interest in a listed company, via the Venture Capital Market Place, that company will be contacted according to the contact specifications that are indicated on the submission form.

Why it is safe and easy paying by credit card?

All of your transactions at The Venture Capital Market Place are processed in real-time through a third party e-payment gateway and are encrypted by secure server software. Details of your credit card including credit card number, name, and address are not passed on to VCMP. VCMP will only be informed of the result of the process, e.g. Mr. Joe paid US$195 at a certain time.

How can I find out whether the information I am going to summit will be encrypted?

You can see on a little "lock" icon on the bottom-left of your Netscape browser or bottom-right of your Internet Explorer. A locked icon indicate the information will be encrypted. An unlocked icon or no icon at all means the information will not be encrypted.

Alternatively, you can just press the "Security" button on your Netscape browser or choose "Properties" in "File" menu of your internet explorer.

How to send your card number without having to enter the credit card number on the Web?

You can send you credit card details by FAX  or alternatively send a check to the address below:

How to pay by check?

You can select "pay by check" on the order form, and send us a bank check in equivalent U.S. dollars drawn from a bank of the country that issues the currency. E.g., checks denominated in US dollars have to be drawn from an American Bank. Similarly, checks in Australian dollar have to be drawn from an Australian bank. If a check is drawn from a bank from a country other than the one that issues the currency, an additional processing fee of US$30 is applicable.E.g., a check in US dollars drawn from a German bank will incur a surcharge of US$30. PLEASE NOTE that currently we only accept checks denominated in major currencies openly traded in international foreign exchange markets, such as U.S. dollar, Australian dollar, British Pounds, HK dollar, Singapore dollar, NZ dollar, German Marks, Japanese Yen, French Franc and Swiss Franc. Paying by check does slow down your order, as we don't provide services you requested until your check is received and your funds clear. As a rough guide, paying by check typically delays service to you by about two weeks.

Note: If you are sending a check denominated in a currency other than American dollar, it is your responsibility to make sure that the equivalent amount in US dollars when the check is settled is the same or greater than the fee you are paying for. Any excess will be credited to your account with VCMP for future service and will NOT be refunded.

What can I do if I DO NOT have a detailed business plan required by many VC firms?

A well thought and well written detailed business plan is essential to any VC raising effort. There is no excuse for a sloppy business plan. You can either spend substantial time on the plan or get professional assistance from the  experienced business people. VCMP will gradually compile a list of useful resources on the internet that provide assistance for writing business plans in the "useful link" section of this site.  Just like developing a new product or a new business, a well prepared business plan won't come cheap.

Why should I use brokers? Can brokers add value in my search for venture capital?

"Broker" in this context is a rather broad term referring to the persons providing services to venture capital seekers in obtaining financing for a fee. Such persons can be accountants, lawyers, management consultants and financial advisers. Brokers can be a valuable contributor to your search for venture capital. Good brokers have contacts and experience in the local venture capital industry and knowledge of specific requirements by different venture capital sources. Some venture capital sources rely on brokers to bring in well prepared investment proposals.

Should I pay brokers an upfront fee for their services?

Most brokers charge a success fee. Some brokers do charge an upfront fee. What matters is "can the broker really do the job?". You need to do a bit of research of the track record of the broker from relevant regulatory authorities. Once you are convinced that the broker will add value, a small upfront fee is worthwhile. Nevertheless, you should become suspicious if any broker asks for more than the costs of providing the service.
